Greater Manchester Breast Screening Programme
Manchester NHS Trust Logo

The Greater Manchester Breast Screening Programme was suspended in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We re-opened in July 2020 and are fully PPE and infection prevention compliant.

All eligible women whose appointments were paused due to the suspension of the programme will be invited for their breast screening in due course, with those who have been waiting longest being appointed first. Please be assured that your appointments have not been forgotten and we will contact you in the near future.

You will receive a timed invitation with details of your appointment. We are now offering self-referral appointments for women over 71.

If you have any concerns about your breasts please contact your GP for further advice

The Greater Manchester Breast Screening Programme

The Greater Manchester Breast Screening Programme (GMBSP) is part of the National Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) and is one of the largest screening breast screening services in England. The GMBSP provides a free breast screening service for well women aged between 50 and up to their 71st birthday, resident in Greater Manchester.

We aim to provide and promote an efficient and effective, high quality breast screening service, to all eligible women within a caring environment.

Breast screening aims to find breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. To do this, an x-ray is taken of each breast (mammogram). Early detection may often mean simpler and more successful treatment.
